Guy Fawke’s Salad

The clocks have gone back and it’s time to have a final check on the allotment. The onion sets are planted, the ground prepared for planting the broad beans and it’s time to take stock. Looking around, I thought I could find enough ingredients for a salad. Nasturtium leaves, a few of the last tender sorrel leaves, rocket flowers and leaves, some young shoots of lovage, mint, marjoram and Chinese leaves that self seed and now, at the end of the season, are no longer pitted.

The dressing was simple 2:1 olive oil to vinegar, salt, pepper but, to keep to the allotment spirit, I added grated horseradish in place of mustard.

A delightful salad which could have had all sorts of ingredients and one that may only be possible for a few more days before we have frosts.
